| Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment that concerns the identification and correction of functional abnormalities in the body, which can result from structural imbalance. It shares many of the same goals as traditional medicine, but places greater emphasis on the relationship between organs and the muscloskeletal system, as well as treating the individual rather than the disease. A session with an Osteopath will start with a detailed case history being taken, then the client will be asked to take some clothes off so that the osteopath can examine them. Careful note is taken of posture, shape of the spine, muscle tone and balance and joint movement. After a diagnosis has been made, treatment may consist of various massage, stretching and joint positioning techniques, manipulation or more gentle rhythmic or cranial methods.
